Donation Package 4 - December 2022

Yesterday, Ride For Apeksha core team members Pavithra, Anu and Rajinda personally finalized handing over our 4th donation worth AU$33,000 (roughly SLR 8.1 million) to Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, (Director – Apeksha Hospital). This large donation consisted of general Oncology and Paediatric medication (Femistra, Capetero, Celplat, Celdach, Posid, Temotero, Colistican, Meroprotect, Intensic, Holoxan, etc). We had a small delay with the logistics of these drugs as they were purchased directly from India to pass maximum commercial advantage to our donors and sponsors, compared to purchasing them locally with inflated costs.
Due to the current situation in the country, 40% of the essential medicine is in shortage so it was very pleasing for us to see that the bulk of the medicine was already distributed within the hospital as soon as they received the stock late last week via MOH. We would like to express our gratitude to Medical Help International who facilitated the procurement and freight of this donation and Indira Cancer Trust (ICT) for always being there for us facilitating our on-going donations. Special mention to SriLankan Airlines for being our freight partner and delivering the consignment on time 💝
Dr. Lalith Poddalgoda (Deputy Director – Apeksha hospital), Dr.Nadarajah Jeyakumaran (President , Sri Lanka college of Oncologists), Dr. Daminda Rajapaksha, Harshi and Champi from Indira Cancer Trust were also present during this handover.

Donation Package 5 - March 2023

The Ride For Apeksha team, led by the inspiring advocate Roshan Mahanama from Roshan Mahanama Trust , made a heart-warming delivery of life-saving medication worth approximately Rs. 2.4Mil to Apeksha Hospital. The collection of the funds in Sri Lanka was spearheaded by Mr. Duminda Silva and supported by the Rotary Club of Colombo South, who have been unwavering champions of our cause. Thanks to our partnership with Indira Cancer Trust and the expertise of Sri Lanka College of Oncologists doctors (Dr. Sanjeewa & Dr. Prasanna), we were able to provide essential treatment for haematological malignancies (blood cancers), which had been out of reach for the hospital.
With this latest donation, the Ride for Apeksha team has contributed medication worth an impressive Rs. 13.2Mil to the hospital so far, with more donations to come. We will soon be handing over injections worth Rs. 3.35Mil, and our biggest donation yet, consisting of vital medical equipment, is also on the horizon. We are committed to supporting Apeksha Hospital and fighting cancer, and we couldn't do it without the incredible generosity and support of our community.

Donation Package 6 - April 2023

We are thrilled to share with you the latest achievement of the Ride For Apeksha team. As you may recall, a team of four riders (Tour the Pearl) travelled 1400km around Sri Lanka in just 13 days to promote cancer awareness and support our campaign in October 2022.
Yesterday, this team was invited by Ride for Apeksha to donate Carboplatin (200) and Cisplatin (250) injections worth Rs. 3.35Mil to the Apeksha Hospital. These chemotherapy medications are essential for the treatment of various types of cancer and will benefit the hospital's patients greatly.
Beyond their support for our campaign, the "Tour the Pearl" team undertook this journey in honour of their friend Chanuka Agalawaththa, who lost his battle to Ewing Sarcoma (a cancer that spread through his spinal cord) last August. Chanuka, a former student of the faculty of engineering - University of Ruhuna was also a patient at Apeksha Hospital and had expressed a desire to raise awareness about cancer and gather funds for the hospital through a bike ride. His friends, Chamindu, Malindu, Pradeep, and Amila, were proud to fulfill his last wish and honour his memory through their participation in Ride for Apeksha campaign.
The handover ceremony was led by Chanuka's mother, brother, Chamindu, Malindu as well as our esteemed advocate Roshan Mahanama from Roshan Mahanama Trust and members from Indira Cancer Trust . It was a touching moment witnessed by the hospital staff and members of Sri Lanka College of Oncologists.
With this donation, our total contribution to the hospital now stands at an impressive Rs. 16Mil worth of medication. In addition to this latest donation, we are also installing medical equipment worth Rs. 26Mil, which will be officially handed over to the Apeksha Hospital in the coming weeks.
We are humbled by the unwavering support and generosity of our community in our mission to fight cancer and support Apeksha Hospital. Thank you for joining us on this journey.
